Proxy IPv6

Why IPv6 is cheap and where that stops mattering

IPv4 ran out. There are about four billion addresses in the protocol, the last blocks were handed out years ago, and what circulates now is a resale market where a single address costs real money every month. IPv6 has more addresses than anyone will ever need, so a provider can hand out a block the size of the entire IPv4 internet without noticing.

That is the whole reason an IPv6 proxy costs a fraction of an IPv4 one. It is not worse hardware or a worse network. It is an address space nobody has to ration.

The catch is on the other side. Your proxy speaks IPv6 to the destination, so the destination has to speak IPv6 too, which means it needs an AAAA record in DNS. Most large sites have one. A great many mid-size sites, and a surprising number of APIs, still do not, and against those an IPv6 proxy simply cannot open a connection.

There is a second, subtler issue. Because IPv6 blocks are enormous and cheap, abusers use them at scale, and some sites treat an entire /64 or /48 as one entity. Where an IPv4 ban hits one address, an IPv6 ban can hit every address you own in that block.

What we sell and where it works

IPv6 addresses are static and dedicated, delivered on the same ports as our other static products:

Check your target before buying in bulk

# Does the target have an AAAA record at all?
dig AAAA example.com +short

# If that returns nothing, IPv6 will not reach it.

# Test one address against the real target first:
curl -6 -x http://login:password@[your-ipv6]:50100 https://example.com -o /dev/null -w '%{http_code}\n'

# $0.20 per address per month, 17 countries
  • Buy one and test it against your actual target list before buying a hundred. The price makes bulk purchase tempting, and the AAAA requirement makes it wasteful when the targets are not ready.
  • Coverage is 17 countries rather than the 41 we offer on IPv4, because the upstream stock is thinner.
  • Traffic is unmetered, as on all our static addresses, so a working IPv6 setup is the cheapest sustained bandwidth we sell.
  • If a target blocks one of your addresses, test a second from a different block before assuming the whole purchase is burned.

Where IPv6 disappoints people

Cheap does not mean equivalent

An IPv6 address only reaches IPv6-capable destinations. That is a hard technical limit, not a quality difference.

Dual-stack does not mean automatic

A site with both A and AAAA records is reachable, but your client decides which to use. Force IPv6 in testing, or you will measure an IPv4 path and conclude the proxy works.

Block-level bans

Sites that ban by prefix take out neighbouring addresses you also own. Spreading purchases across blocks costs nothing extra and limits the damage.

Not a substitute for residential

IPv6 addresses come from hosting infrastructure. Anything that rejects datacenter ranges rejects these too.
