The two tools below answer two different questions: whether an address works, and how you look from the other side. Both run without an account, and both are worth using before a purchase rather than after the first strange error.
What each one answers
The difference matters more than it looks: half of all support tickets are an attempt to answer one tool’s question with the other one.
- The proxy checker answers whether an address works and what it reveals: is it alive, which protocol answers, which exit it gives, how long the round trip takes, and whether it inserts your real address into the headers.
- What is my IP answers how your browser looks: address, timezone, language, screen, canvas fingerprint, and whether WebRTC reports a different address while your pages go through the proxy.
- The first looks at the network, the second at the client. A refusal the first cannot explain is usually explained by the second.
How to use them before buying
An order that saves both money and correspondence.
Run the proxy checker on the address issued to you in a trial and compare the country and network against what you ordered. That catches half of all misunderstandings on the spot: the wrong country, the wrong address class, a transparent exit that passes your own address along.
Then open What is my IP inside the profile you will actually work in. Not in a fresh window and not in a different browser: the point of the check is to see the configuration that will do the job.
If the two tools report different countries, the problem is the browser rather than the address. That is the most common reason a good address behaves like a bad one.
What they will not tell you
The boundary is better known in advance than discovered on live work.
They will not tell you whether a particular site will let you in. That decision belongs to the site and is made on a combination that includes pace, headers, behaviour and whether scripts run on your side.
They do not measure the speed of your collection. A round trip to a test endpoint is not throughput against a real target in another country.
They do not replace a check against the target itself. The honest test is the same request through two different exits to the site the whole thing exists for.
About the tools
Is an account needed?
No. Both tools are open and work without signing in.
Does the checker work with other providers’ addresses?
Yes, in the usual formats: host:port, host:port:user:pass or user:pass@host:port. The tool sells nothing; it answers whether the address is alive.
Why does What is my IP show the wrong country?
Usually because the browser reports an address outside the proxy through WebRTC, or because the profile carries a different timezone. The tool shows both values side by side so the mismatch is visible.
Can I judge speed from them?
Only roughly. A round trip to a test endpoint is not the speed of collection from a real target, and on distant countries the gap is large.
