Connection strings for Indonesia
The country code is ID, upper case. The city goes after it with _city_, hyphens instead of spaces, in the order country, city, session, lifetime.

The geography is misleading here, and it is worth understanding before you start requesting cities.
Formally Indonesia stretches across thousands of kilometres and thousands of islands. In practice connectivity, datacenters and home connections concentrate on Java, and within it above all in Jakarta. Surabaya and Bandung provide a noticeable pool, and beyond them it thins out sharply.
The practical consequence: a country-level request will almost always land you on Java, while a request for Medan or Denpasar succeeds noticeably less often than a comparably sized city in Europe would. City targeting here narrows the choice more than it refines it.
If you are measuring something genuinely regional, asking for a city is fine, but a country-level fallback and logging when it fires are a necessity rather than a preference.
When a Singaporean address is the better buy
A question that comes up here more than in any other country in the region, and it settles in a minute.
Indonesia’s international connectivity largely transits Singapore. So if your job is routing, meaning short paths to targets across Southeast Asia, a Singaporean datacenter address gives a better result than an Indonesian one and costs the same.
An Indonesian address is what you need when the target looks at the country: marketplaces, search results, advertising, broadcasters. No Singaporean address substitutes there, because the question is not speed but what you are shown.
In one line: buy routing in Singapore and content in Indonesia. The mistake in this direction costs more than the reverse, because the data you collect is the wrong data while looking entirely plausible.
What actually blocks you on Indonesian targets
The familiar split, with the same addition about apps as in Thailand.
Marketplaces and the classifieds platforms filter hosting ranges: expect a 403 from datacenter and plan for residential.
Publishers and reference sites serve datacenter addresses normally.
Apps and platforms grown out of them expect a carrier address more often than a household one: the market here is mobile, as the Thai one is.
Search results are reachable but rate limited per address: more addresses rather than a different type.
Which exits you get here, and how stable they are
The Indonesian pool in practical terms.
The size is decent thanks to the population, but the geography is narrow: nearly all of it is on Java. For volume jobs that is fine; for a geographic sample across the country it is not.
Line quality varies more than in neighbouring countries: fast in Jakarta, noticeably slower outside the large cities. A thirty second client timeout earns its keep here, and shortening it is a bad idea.
Sticky sessions behave normally, and mobile rotates by physical reconnect: seconds rather than milliseconds, and the same address sometimes comes back.
Choosing the type for an Indonesian target
The usual order, with a fork right at the start.
- First decide whether you need the country or the route. If it is the route, take a Singaporean datacenter address and stop there.
- If you need the country, start with an Indonesian datacenter address: $1.15 per address per month.
- A 403 on the first request means hosting ranges are filtered. Move to country-level residential.
- If the target is an app and residential runs into a check, try a mobile address.
- A 429 after many requests is a per-address rate limit: more addresses, not a different type.
What Indonesian sites check beyond the address
An Indonesian address opens the first gate; language and timezone decide the rest.
Send id-ID in Accept-Language. The larger platforms keep English versions and will hand one to whoever did not ask for Indonesian.
There are three time zones here, which is unusual for Asia. Configure the profile from the city: a Jakarta address reporting Bali time is an hour out.
Then the usual: consent banners hide content, and a scraper that does not handle them captures an empty page under a successful status code.
