Connection strings for Morocco
The country code is MA, upper case. The city goes after it with _city_, hyphens instead of spaces, in the order country, city, session, lifetime.

The first feature, and it hits keyword lists harder than it hits access.
The commercial web here is largely French: on most big platforms the French version is the main and fullest one. So run the first pass with fr-MA and Arabic second, rather than the other way round.
Then it gets interesting. Spoken Moroccan Arabic, in messages and listings, is written not only in Arabic letters but also in Latin ones, and for sounds Latin script lacks people use digits: a three, a seven and a nine stand inside words in place of letters. These are neither typos nor spam but ordinary written practice.
What breaks. Tokenisers that split on words and discard digits destroy half the meaning. Filters that drop "suspicious" strings with digits inside words throw away perfectly normal listings. Keyword lists built only in Modern Standard Arabic or only in French miss the queries people actually type.
What to do. Collect queries in all three forms from search suggestions rather than deriving them by rule. Leave digits inside words alone during processing, and use the listing identifier as your matching key. Treat the title as a hint, because the same item will appear in several spellings.
A moving calendar shifts your year-on-year comparisons
The second feature, and it concerns conclusions rather than collection.
Part of the annual cycle here follows the lunar calendar rather than the Gregorian one, and it moves roughly eleven days earlier each year. During the month in question opening hours, delivery rhythm, the composition of demand and the shape of daily traffic all change.
What follows. A year-on-year comparison by calendar date lines up different phases of the cycle: what fell mid-month last year falls at its start this year. The difference in the numbers is real, but it is explained by the calendar shifting rather than by the market.
Align series on the lunar date rather than the Gregorian one, and flag the relevant periods with their own field in the data. Seasonality then stays visible and false conclusions about growth or decline do not appear.
And a technical detail that surprises those who did not know it: the country runs on UTC+1 permanently, but reverts to UTC+0 for that month. The time zone here therefore moves on the lunar calendar rather than the Gregorian one, and a profile configured once will be an hour out for part of the year.
What actually blocks you on Moroccan targets
The familiar split.
Marketplaces and Avito filter server ranges and expect a home address: that means residential.
Publishers and government sites serve requests calmly.
Apps and the platforms grown out of them expect a carrier address more often than in Europe: the market here is mobile.
Search results are reachable but rate limited per address: more addresses rather than a different type.
Which exits you get here, and how stable they are
The Moroccan pool in practical terms.
The pool is mid-sized: a country of thirty-odd million people, with most addresses in Casablanca and Rabat.
Response times from Europe are short: the country is close to Spain and the routes are direct. This is one of the few African countries in our coverage where latency is not a constraint.
Line quality in the large cities is good and more mixed inland. Do not shorten the thirty second timeout.
Sticky sessions hold an address for up to fifty minutes, and mobile rotates by physical reconnect: seconds rather than milliseconds.
Choosing the type for a Moroccan target
The order here is short.
- Start with country-level residential: it passes on marketplaces, Avito and search.
- Set the language with the header: fr-MA on the primary pass, ar-MA on the second.
- If the target is an app and residential runs into a check, try a mobile address.
- If a job has to run on one address, add a sticky session with a lifetime.
- A 429 after many requests is a per-address rate limit: more addresses, not a different type.
What Moroccan sites check beyond the address
A Moroccan address opens the first gate; language, time and number parsing decide the rest.
Send fr-MA or ar-MA depending on the pass. Arabic text runs right to left and mixes with Latin script and digits, so extract prices with a digit-based expression rather than by position relative to the currency mark.
The currency is the dirham, written MAD or DH, and its position relative to the number is not fixed.
The time zone is UTC+1 for most of the year and UTC+0 for one month, as described above. The profile is worth revisiting rather than setting once.
Consent banners are less common than in the EU, but a language picker on first visit is frequent and is remembered in a cookie, after which you will consistently collect the wrong version.
What a month of Moroccan work costs
