Russia proxies

Two features of this country change the shape of the job rather than the proxy settings. Search here is regional by design, so a Moscow exit measures Moscow rather than the country. And there are eleven time zones, which means the word "day" in a schedule needs saying which one.

What we have in Russia

Prices are the same as in every other country we cover.

What Russian addresses get used for

Marketplace price monitoring

Wildberries, Ozon, Yandex Market: prices and availability depend on the buyer’s region, so the collection point matters.

Classifieds and second-hand

Avito and Drom: the listings market is tied to the city more tightly than in most countries.

Results in two search engines

Yandex and google.ru return different results, and the first sets region separately in a way that shapes the results directly.

Retail and electronics

DNS, M.Video, Citilink, Lamoda: range and prices differ between regions.

What looks different from outside Russia

These serve a local visitor something other than what a foreign one sees, because of broadcast rights and local catalogues. We sell addresses rather than a way past detection.

Which type to take for a Russian job

Cities people ask for here

Cities are set with the _city_ suffix, and here that is not a formality: both prices and search results depend on the region.

MoscowThe largest pool, and a market of its own on price and lead times
Saint PetersburgThe second largest pool
NovosibirskSiberia, a different time zone and different delivery times
YekaterinburgThe Urals, a large regional market
KazanThe Volga region, a compact pool
KrasnodarThe south, with its own logistics

The setups people take here most often

  1. 01Residential with a cityThe default: without a region the price data is incomplete.
  2. 02Two points, capital and regionMoscow plus any city further east, to see the spread.
  3. 03Datacenter for neutral targetsPublishers and reference sites are served normally.
  4. 04A schedule that names the zoneDaily slices are labelled with a time zone rather than the word "day".

Connection strings for Russia

The country code is RU, upper case. The city goes after it with _city_, hyphens instead of spaces, in the order country, city, session, lifetime.

Russian static addresses take no suffixes: the host is the IP from your dashboard, port 50100, SOCKS5 on 50101.

Search here is regional by design

The main difference from most countries in this section, and it changes how the job is framed rather than how the proxy is configured.

Search does not reduce to one engine here: Yandex has its own results, its own advertising network and its own maps, so positions are collected in two passes and averaging them together is meaningless.

What matters more comes next. Region in Yandex is not a cosmetic setting but part of the model: results for Moscow, Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk differ in composition rather than only in order. The region is inferred partly from the visitor’s address, so a Moscow exit measures Moscow.

The consequence for reports: a line saying "positions in Russia" with no region named means nothing. Those are positions in whichever city you collected from. If you need the country, collect several regions and keep region as a column in the data.

The same holds for prices. Marketplaces and retail chains show availability, lead times and some prices according to the buyer’s region, so collecting from one point describes one point. This is the case where city targeting is a condition of correctness rather than a luxury.

Eleven time zones break the word "day"

The second feature, and it concerns scheduling and aggregation.

The country stretches across eleven time zones. When the day is starting in the west it is ending in the east. For collection that means a daily slice with no zone named describes not a day but a window that lands at different times in different regions.

Three practical consequences. First: promotions and price updates are often tied to a region’s local time, so a pass launched on one zone catches different regions in different phases of the day. Second: comparing yesterday against today across regions without normalising time shows a difference that is not there. Third: an antidetect profile has to match the exit city rather than the capital, or the browser time zone is hours away from the address.

The fix is dull: store the observation time in UTC plus the region’s local zone as its own field, and build daily aggregates on local days when you are comparing regions against each other.

And a scheduling caveat: if you collect the whole country in one pass, spread it so each region is hit at roughly the same local time. Otherwise you are comparing morning in one place with evening in another.

What actually blocks you on Russian targets

The familiar split.

Marketplaces and the large chains filter hosting ranges: expect a 403 from datacenter and plan for residential.

Publishers and reference sites serve datacenter addresses normally.

Avito and the other classifieds platforms cut rate noticeably: there the question is pace rather than address class.

Search results are reachable but rate limited per address: more addresses rather than a different type.

Which exits you get here, and how stable they are

The Russian pool in practical terms.

The pool is large but unevenly spread: Moscow and Saint Petersburg carry most of it, the large cities further east work reliably, and beyond them it thins.

Line quality in the large cities is good and more mixed in remote regions, while distance adds latency. Do not shorten the thirty second timeout.

City targeting pays for itself here more often than anywhere else in this section, because both prices and search results depend on the region.

Sticky sessions hold an address for up to fifty minutes, and default rotation changes it on every request.

Choosing the type for a Russian target

The usual order, with a regional fork at the start.

  • First decide which regions you need: without that, price and position data describes a single point.
  • For publishers and reference sites take a datacenter address: $1.15 per address per month.
  • For marketplaces, classifieds and search you need residential with a city set.
  • On the classifieds platforms lower the pace before you hit the wall: what they cut is frequency.
  • If the job has to run on one address, add a sticky session with a lifetime.

What Russian sites check beyond the address

A Russian address opens the first gate; region, time and number parsing decide the rest.

Send ru-RU. English versions are rare and usually cut down, so there is little point collecting them.

Many platforms remember the chosen region in a cookie from the first visit. If you do not verify the region in the page body, you will consistently collect somebody else’s city from a correct address.

The number format is continental: 1 299,90 ₽, a space between thousands and a comma for decimals, and that separator is often non-breaking.

Set the time zone from the exit city rather than the capital: the spread inside the country runs to several hours.

What a month of Russian work costs

Three scenarios at our prices, so you have something to check a quote against.

  • Price monitoring across marketplaces, 40,000 listings a day with images blocked, roughly 110 KB per page. That is about 4.4 GB a day, around 132 GB a month: $132 on residential.
  • Every additional region multiplies the volume: three regions is three budgets. The per-gigabyte price is identical everywhere, so what you budget is coverage.
  • If the targets are neutral, the same collection on ten datacenter addresses costs $13.50 a month.

The legal part, stated plainly

Russia is not in the European Union, and GDPR does not apply here directly. Its own personal data legislation does, and it has particularities including requirements about where citizens’ data is stored. That concerns your pipeline rather than your choice of address.

This is general information rather than legal advice. Our terms require lawful use and we act on abuse reports. Where the answer carries commercial risk, ask a lawyer familiar with local law.

Verifying a Russian exit

Under a minute. The second command is the main one here: it shows that a city request actually landed you in the region you wanted rather than in the capital.

Three checks

# 1. is the exit Russian, and where
curl -s -x login_c_RU:password@proxy.sotaproxy.com:10000 https://ipinfo.io/json

# 2. did the city request land in the right region
curl -s -x login_c_RU_city_Moscow:password@proxy.sotaproxy.com:10000 https://ipinfo.io/json | grep -iE "city|region"
curl -s -x login_c_RU_city_Novosibirsk:password@proxy.sotaproxy.com:10000 https://ipinfo.io/json | grep -iE "city|region"

# 3. does the fifty minute session hold
for i in 1 2 3; do
  curl -s -x login_c_RU_s_42_ttl_50m:password@proxy.sotaproxy.com:10000 https://api.ipify.org; echo
done

Questions people ask before buying Russian addresses

Why do country-level positions not add up?

Because search here is regional: results for different cities differ in composition. "Positions in Russia" without a region named means positions in the city you collected from.

Do I need city targeting?

Yes, more often than in other countries in this section. Region drives prices and availability as well as search results.

Why does the site show the wrong city?

The region is often remembered in a cookie from the first visit. Verify it from the page content rather than from the exit address.

How should daily slices be counted?

In UTC plus the region’s local zone as its own field. Otherwise you compare morning in one region with evening in another.

Why the refusal on a classifieds platform?

What they cut is frequency rather than address class. Lower the pace before changing type.

Do Russian addresses cost more?

No. Prices are the same everywhere: residential from $1.00 per GB, datacenter from $1.15 per address per month.
