Iceland proxies
Our catalogue lists six of Iceland’s eight regions, 11 city records and eight networks. For a country of 400,000 that is what you would expect: Míla, the shared infrastructure operator, is present in eight cities out of 10, Vodafone in six, Síminn in four, Nova and Hringdu in two. Reykjavik holds seven networks, Hafnarfjörður four. And what we checked ourselves: Iceland is one of the most open countries in our measurements, 22 of 24 well known Icelandic sites opened on the first request from Europe, and only mbl.is and Icelandair are closed. An address here is for króna prices and local conditions, not for access.
What we have in Iceland
The price is the same as in every other country we cover.
What Icelandic addresses get used for
Retail and groceries
Elko, Heimkaup, Hagkaup, Bónus, Krónan: all open, the address is for króna prices and availability.
Classifieds
Bland, Bílasölur, Já: open, the address is for local listings.
Banks and government services
Landsbankinn, Arion, Íslandsbanki, island.is, Skatturinn: open, the dashboards expect a kennitala.
Travel and airlines
Icelandair, Play: Icelandair sits behind a Cloudflare challenge, Play is open.
Ad verification and search results
Vísir, RÚV, DV, google.is: mbl.is sits behind a Cloudflare challenge.
What looks different from outside Iceland
Of 24 sites we checked, 22 opened on the first request and two met the request with a Cloudflare challenge. This is one of the most open markets in our measurements.
What a residential address gives you here
Cities people ask for here
A city is set with the _city_ suffix. The number beside it is how many networks our pool holds there.
The setups people take here most often
- 01Residential plus ReykjavikSeven networks, and two thirds of the country live in the conurbation
- 02Residential, country levelEight networks, nearly all of them home connections
- 03Residential with Síminn or Vodafone pinnedWhen the target looks at the retail provider
- 04A one hour sticky sessionFor banks and island.is
Connection strings for Iceland
The country is pinned with a suffix in the login. Host, port and password stay the same as for any other country.
A city goes in as a second suffix. Without it you most often get the capital conurbation, where two thirds of the country live, and for most jobs that is right. Akureyri and Egilsstaðir are for when the target looks at the region.
Icelandic exits, four ways
# rotating, a new address per request
curl -x login_c_IS:password@proxy.sotaproxy.com:10000 https://api.ipify.org
# sticky, the same address for an hour
curl -x login_c_IS_s_7_ttl_1h:password@proxy.sotaproxy.com:10000 https://api.ipify.org
# pinned to Reykjavik, seven networks
curl -x login_c_IS_city_Reykjavik:password@proxy.sotaproxy.com:10000 https://api.ipify.org
# SOCKS5 on the same port: the scheme picks the protocol, not the number
curl -x socks5h://login_c_IS:password@proxy.sotaproxy.com:10000 https://api.ipify.orgEight networks, and Míla is a special one
The widest network in the pool, Míla, is present in eight cities out of 10 and is the only one in three. Míla is not a retail provider but the operator of the shared infrastructure that Síminn, Vodafone, Nova and Hringdu run on. To a platform an address on Míla looks like a home line that any retail provider could be behind.
Vodafone Iceland, operating under the Sýn brand, is present in six cities, Síminn Fiber in four, Nova and Hringdu in two, Vortex in Reykjavik, Kapalvæðing in Reykjanesbær. One network is not a home connection: RHnet, the research and education network, in Reykjavik.
All three of the country’s mobile carriers, Síminn, Vodafone and Nova, are in the pool. For a job that means: pin the retail provider if the target looks at it specifically, and for a home look anything but RHnet will do.
The capital conurbation holds the catalogue
The Capital Region gives four records out of 10: Reykjavik with seven networks, Hafnarfjörður with four, Kópavogur with three, Garðabær with two. Egilsstaðir in the east holds three, Reykjanesbær by the airport two, and Akureyri, Akranes, Stykkishólmur and Súðavík one each.
The South and the Northwest are absent from the catalogue. In four cities out of 10 exactly one network is available, and it is Míla or Vodafone.
For a job that means: take Iceland at country level or as the capital; the difference between them is small.
Twenty two sites out of 24 are open
We checked 24 well known Icelandic domains from Europe with a full browser header set, on 16 October 2026. Twenty two opened: Elko, Heimkaup, Hagkaup, Bónus, Krónan, Domino’s, Bland, Bílasölur, Já, the Landsbankinn, Arion and Íslandsbanki banks, the Central Bank, island.is, the Skatturinn tax office, the Síminn, Vodafone and Nova carriers, Play, and the Vísir, RÚV and DV outlets.
Only mbl.is and Icelandair met the request with a Cloudflare challenge and answered 403. Not one country filter, not one silence. We have had that result in one other country, Nepal.
The practical conclusion: in Iceland an address does not open doors, they are already open. It is for what a local sees: króna prices, Icelandic search results, local delivery terms. If a target is closed from outside, it is not on this list.
What Icelandic sites check beyond the address
The language is Icelandic, and banks, carriers and retailers have English versions. For collecting search results that is one pass, sometimes two.
The currency is the króna, ISK, written kr. There is no fractional part, prices are whole numbers, with a dot for thousands. The main feature: almost every dashboard, from a bank to island.is, expects a kennitala, the national ID number, and the address does not replace it.
The time zone is UTC+0 all year round, with no daylight saving. The weekend is Saturday and Sunday.
How stable the exits are here
In the capital conurbation there is something to switch to and sessions hold. Across the rest of the country there are one to three networks per city, and almost no rotation inside the city.
On size, plainly: eight networks, seven of them home connections, all three mobile carriers. Plan your load against the capital and do not count on much diversity of autonomous systems.
Choosing the setup for an Icelandic target
The short fork.
- You need an Icelandic subscriber: country level or Reykjavik, the difference is small.
- You need a retail provider: Síminn, Vodafone or Nova pinned.
- You need a region: Akureyri or Egilsstaðir, selectively.
- The target is closed from outside: country level, which is mbl.is and Icelandair.
- You need a bank or island.is dashboard: a one hour sticky session and a kennitala, which the address does not replace.
What a month of Icelandic work costs
It is counted in traffic. A dollar per gigabyte.
- Price monitoring across Elko and Heimkaup, 20,000 listings a day with images blocked, roughly 110 KB per page: about 2.2 GB a day, around 66 GB a month, $66 on residential.
- A daily sweep of one Bland category: a few gigabytes.
- Ad verification, 200 placements a day at about 400 KB each: under 2.5 GB a month.
The legal part, stated plainly
Iceland applies the GDPR through the European Economic Area, by Act 90 of 2018, supervised by Persónuvernd. Collecting publicly posted prices and processing personal data are different things, and the second is regulated separately.
Communications are regulated by Fjarskiptastofa. A proxy changes none of what you are allowed to do with data. It changes only which country the request appears to come from.
This is general information rather than legal advice. Our terms require lawful use and we act on abuse reports.
Verifying an Icelandic exit
Under a minute. The third command shows whether mbl.is opens through the exit: a foreign address got a challenge.
Three checks
# 1. is the exit Icelandic, and on which network
curl -s -x login_c_IS_city_Reykjavik:password@proxy.sotaproxy.com:10000 https://ipinfo.io/json
# 2. does a sticky session hold the same address
for i in 1 2 3; do curl -s -x login_c_IS_s_7_ttl_1h:password@proxy.sotaproxy.com:10000 https://api.ipify.org; echo; done
# 3. does the challenged outlet open through the exit
curl -s -x login_c_IS:password@proxy.sotaproxy.com:10000 -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code}\n" https://www.mbl.is/What to read next
Where the numbers come from
The numbers on regions, cities and networks come from our residential pool catalogue as of 16 October 2026. Service entries with no city name are not counted. We ran the check on 24 Icelandic domains ourselves from Europe on the same day, with a full browser header set and a 45 second limit per answer.
- Fjarskiptastofa, the Icelandic communications regulatorOfficial carrier data, if you want to check the shape of the market against our pool.
- MílaThe shared infrastructure operator and the widest network in the pool: eight cities out of 10.
- PersónuverndThe personal data protection supervisor.
- ElkoThe main electronics retailer, open from outside, prices in krónur.
Questions people ask before buying Icelandic addresses
What is Míla in the network list?
The operator of the shared infrastructure that the retail providers Síminn, Vodafone, Nova and Hringdu run on. An address on Míla looks like a home line, and it is the widest network in the pool: eight cities out of 10.
Are Síminn, Vodafone and Nova in the pool?
Yes, all three: Vodafone in six cities, Síminn in four, Nova in two. Iceland is one of the few countries in the catalogue where the mobile carriers are fully represented.
Do Icelandic sites block foreigners?
Hardly. Of the 24 we checked, 22 opened, and only mbl.is and Icelandair sit behind a Cloudflare challenge. An address here is for local conditions, not for access.
Why does a dashboard not open even from an Icelandic address?
Because almost every dashboard, from a bank to island.is, expects a kennitala, the national ID number. The address opens the page; it does not replace the number.
Do Icelandic addresses cost more?
No. The price is the same everywhere: residential from $1.00 per GB.
